MySQL as a hidden service

last year

I am just wondering if it is possible to run MySQL (or any DB for that matter) as a hidden service on Tor.

The main point of all this would be to hide the servers location/IP rather than to prevent people sniffing user/pass info etc.

There would be no webserver running, just the MySQL server.

I figured with proxychains properly configured I would be able to connect to the server using the command below or similar

proxychains mysql -u USER -p'PASS' -h a1b2c3d4e5.onion DBNAME

Any suggestions here are very welcome. Info on this seems hard to come by on the net.

Haven't tried it, but as far as I know that should work. MySQL uses port 3306 (unless you've changed it) so when you create the hidden service, put that down as the virtual port, and use for the target.
