Real N00by here!
I only want to use Tor as a browser, not interested at moment of doing anything more, until I get the hang of Tor.
So, I downloaded the Tor browser and installed on my
Windows 10 Pro laptop.
Went through all the set up and everything was fine. I clicked on
Start Tor Browser icon on desktop and the browser started - using Firefox.
The next day, after booting up, I went straight to start Tor icon, having no other browser running, I clicked on the
Start Tor Browser icon again, the one I had used yesterday. But this time nothing happened. Clicked again, nothing.
I went to where Tor was installed, tried to run Tor from within Tor directory, again nothing started. Then, after probably 15 mins, the Tor browser appeared on screen.
I entered a website url to get Tor to search. Straight away I got the
Problem loading page error tab showing
Unable to find the proxy server. Firefox is configured to use a proxy that can't be found[I]. Funny, I don't remember setting up a proxy! Firefox runs OK, normally, so why does it need a proxy now?
So I...
checked the browser's settings,
Options / Advanced / Network / Connection / Settings / Configure Proxies to Access the Internet / No Proxy tab,
No proxy was already selected.
checked I had a working network connection (well I wouldn't be writing this query if I wasn't!)
checked firewall - the only firewalls I have (Windows and IOBit) weren't running (risky I know, but!).
I even used the option to reset Tor browser to default settings.
After all this it still came up with
Problem loading page,... etc.
I shut down the Tor (Firefox) browser, then re-tried again to start Tor. The Firefox browser started again with the Firefox' search page opening.
I enter a random URL that hasn't been used for a while, to make sure it was no cached site.
Again, the
Problem loading page error came up -
[i]Unable to find the proxy server.
I checked the browser's settings again,
Options / Advanced / Network / Connection / Settings tab only this time
Manual proxy configuration and the
SOCKS v5 and
Remote DNS were selected.
So, I turned off the
Configure Proxies to Access the Internet / No Proxy, then tried again.
Again the Firefox search page came up. I tried a search item in the search bar this time, and....
and again the Firefox
Problem loading page error page "
[i]Unable to find the proxy server appeared.
So, what can I do to use the Tor browser ???
Thanks in advance for any help.
