A question regarding tor's command prompt box on desktop.

Hello There,

I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. I'm using Tor (Not Vidalia) on windows and everything my system starts up, a command prompt always seem to "appear" on my desktop showing configuration information, which is quite annoying. I was wondering if there's a way disable this command prompt box from appearing on my desktop (Basically, I want this command prompt to not show up at all when tor's starting up) through the torrc file? If not the torrc file, where then can I find the configurations (source code. etc) in which I can take care of this problem?

I would appreciate any help regarding this issue. Thanks in advance!!

This is Windows console window, it appears on every console application.

To avoid it you should start Tor programmatically passing the CREATE_NO_WINDOW flag to CreateProcess().
Or use a special tool like hstart.

Hello TOR hacker,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the hstart program that you recommended doesn't really work well with my situation as the windows still tends to "flash" on start-up.

You stated this:

"To avoid it you should start Tor programmatically passing the CREATE_NO_WINDOW flag to CreateProcess()."

Can you explain in more detail how one can go about doing this? Also, is there a way to do this perhaps using parameters through cmd.exe or a program that be used to change the flags settings of a compile application and make changes to the createprocess() api from there?

Thanks.

Create file "start.vbs":

Set Shell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Shell.Run """Path to your Tor executable""", 0, False

And start it with

wscript.exe "PATHTO:\start.vbs"
